TRAVELING BY CAR

The majority of fans make the trip by car, and the facility is well-prepared to manage heavy race-day traffic. Both complimentary and paid parking options are available, with police officers and parking attendants stationed around the grounds to direct vehicles.

Directions

From I-20 (Birmingham side): Take Exit 168 and follow Speedway Boulevard east toward the track. Signs and staff will guide you into the designated parking areas.
From I-20 (Atlanta side): Use Exit 173 and head south on Speedway Industrial Drive. Traffic officials may redirect you depending on congestion–simply follow their instructions for the quickest route into the lots.
From Highway 77 (north or south): Follow signs for Talladega Superspeedway. Expect lane changes and temporary traffic patterns on major event weekends.

Approximate drive times

Birmingham, AL (downtown): Around 50 minutes, 55 miles via I-20 East.
Atlanta, GA: About 1 hour 40 minutes, 110 miles via I-20 West.
Montgomery, AL: Roughly 1 hour 30 minutes, 90 miles via US-231 North, then I-20.
Huntsville, AL: Around 2 hours 15 minutes, 110 miles using I-65 South and US-231.
Chattanooga, TN: Just under 2.5 hours, 130 miles via I-59 South.
Nashville, TN: About 3 hours 50 minutes, 240 miles via I-65 South to I-20 East.

Key tips for race day travel

Plan for delays: Traffic builds quickly on race mornings, especially on Speedway Boulevard and I-20 exits.
Follow staff directions: Parking attendants will funnel cars into open lots in order, so use all available lanes.
Lot closures: Entry points close progressively as lots fill up; once an area reaches capacity, you’ll be routed to the next available.
Safety first: Do not attempt to park or walk along highways leading to the track. Crossing lanes of traffic slows entry and creates serious hazards.
Avoid off-site shopping centers: Local retail lots (including those near Lincoln and Oxford) enforce towing on race weekends, and crossing busy roads on foot is restricted until traffic subsides.
